ST PAUL, MINNESOTA
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
June 04, 2012
From the Desk of Representative Connie Doepke
After reflecting on the outcome of the recent Senate District 33 endorsing convention, I have decided to stay in the race and seek the Republican Party’s nomination for the State Senate the old fashioned way – through a fair and open contest in the August Primary. I have been on both sides of endorsement convention battles in my short political career. I understand the passions, the principles, and the tactics. 2012 will mark a historic time for the Republican Party. Not only are we dealing with new district lines, with new communities and new voters, we are also dealing with competing activist views on how Republicans should campaign and make policy, once elected.
I have been overwhelmed in recent days by the outpouring of support encouraging me to take this contest to a primary.
As a conservative Republican, I understand that there are strong differences between me and my opponent regarding process, views, and legislative policy. I respect the rights of all candidates to hold different views. This is what makes the upcoming primary a rare opportunity to let the broader Republican base of voters in Senate District 33 choose a candidate that they are comfortable with and that they can be assured will represent their views in St Paul.
During the recent endorsement process, statements were made that distorted my record as a legislator. I am proud of my conservative record as your State Representative during the two terms that I have represented Senate District 33B. A primary will be an outstanding opportunity for the people in the district to evaluate the factual records of the candidates.
During my four years in the House and eight years on the Wayzata School Board, I have worked hard to make a difference in the lives of the taxpayers, the families, and the communities that I have represented. It is my entire record that should be on the ballot.
I look forward to meeting and talking to all of you. See you on the trail!
