State Representative Connie Doepke (R‐33B) announced today that she will run for the Minnesota Senate seat in new District 33. Currently serving her second term in the Minnesota House of Representatives, Doepke has represented House District 33B which included communities surrounding Lake Minnetonka.
With Senator Gen Olson’s previously announced retirement and following the announcement on February 21st of new legislative district lines, Doepke decided to run for the open seat in new Senate District 33. New Senate District 33 includes communities that Doepke currently represents such as Wayzata, Long Lake, Orono, Shorewood and Excelsior as well as other communities from old Senate District 33 such as Independence, Mound, Medina and Minnetrista. In addition, new Senate District 33 now includes the communities of Corcoran and Greenfield from old Senate District 32 to the north and the community of Chanhassen from old Senate District 34 to the south.
Doepke said, “I am excited to have the opportunity of running for the Minnesota Senate and of serving many of the same communities that I have worked hard for in my current House seat and more broadly in old Senate District 33. I am equally excited about the opportunity of serving the great communities joining the new district from the north, portions of which I know well from my previous service on the Wayzata School Board.”
In the Minnesota House, Rep. Doepke currently serves on the Education Reform Committee, where she is Vice Chair, the Taxes Committee, and the Higher Education Policy and Finance Committee.
Connie lives in Orono with her husband, Mark. They have two children, Matthew and Rebecca, who are graduates of Wayzata High School.
Connie is a graduate of Michigan State University, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Communication Arts. Prior to running for office, she spent 20 years as an executive in the direct marketing industry and was an officer of a Fortune 500 company. She served two terms as a member of the Wayzata School Board, holding the offices of Chair, Vice‐chair, and Treasurer. She is a member of the Twin West Chamber of Commerce, where she previously served on the Board of Directors and as co‐chair of the Business/Education Partnership.
